An industry first from Gekko,
an in-line granular carbon filter designed to be positioned outside the grow room/tent thus freeing up working space.

Gekko Filters, handmade to deliver performance.

Gekko Filters use the highest quality activated carbon, made from coking coal, rather than cheaper, inferior products made from coconut shells or peat, which are less absorbent. Each batch of carbon granules is subjected to thorough quality control inspection before being used.

Gekko Filter casings are made of bespoke galvanised steel components. These are strong, durable and resistant to oxidation. The filter walls are made from carbon sheet steel which is perforated, cut to size and rolled into cylinders, before being passed through a zinc bath.

“The use of special material in the filter wall means that it alone is needed to hold the activated carbon in place; there is no need for further layers of other materials inside to contain the granules within the filter walls”. This means no carbon leakage or loss of odour absorption, and no additional layers to reduce carbon performance.

The Gekko filter is filled with premium quality, ultra absorbent activated carbon granules. Due to its extremely porous nature, just one gram of this form of carbon has an enormous surface area of approximately 2000m2 (2393yd2)! The zinc galvanised steel walls of the Gekko Filter have a perforation of R1.8.T2.5, which means each hole is 1.8mm in diameter with their centres being 2.5mm apart. This ensures that nearly 60% of filter walls are open to enable air to more easily pass through, this means greater air flow and less waste of materials.

The top flanges and bottoms are pre-formed out of the same high quality zinc galvanised steel. Once the inner and outer walls are attached to the bottom the filter body is then transferred to the Filling Room where the granular activated carbon is deposited between the inner and outer wall. Air, like water, will always follow the path of least resistance. Any looseness in the packing of the activated carbon within the filter will enable the air to flow round, rather than through, the carbon. The result would be a much less efficient filter, regardless of the quality of the materials used in its construction. This is why the activated carbon is packed as tightly as possible. To ensure that this is the case once the filters are filled they are placed on tremor plates and vibrated at high frequency so that the granules are fully compressed. A high density foam collar is then fitted to ensure there can be no further movement of the activated carbon.

The unit is then finally sealed with the top flange. The whole process is carried out by hand and each filter receives a final inspection before having its filter sleeve fitted and being packed into a sturdy box.

As long as the Gekko filter is fitted correctly, in an environment with a maximum relative humidity of 70% or less and is operated within the specified parameters (with regards to cubic meters per hour airflow) we guarantee a service life of 18 months.
